The solution combines Digital Guardian's Threat-Aware Data Protection and Microsoft's Azure Information Protection (AIP) into a single, seamless, and complementary suite. We recently presented a preview at RSA Conference 2018.
Using Microsoft's Information Protection (MIP) SDK, joint Microsoft and Digital Guardian customers can extend their data protection policy to automatically label and protect files. By combining MIP with Digital Guardian's rich visibility into file classification and movement companies will be better able to safeguard files from egress, whether it be through outbound email messages, cloud uploads/downloads, or files being copied to external/removable storage. The simplified integration will also assist organizations when it comes to securely collaborating with external third parties.
Microsoft's AIP already allows administrators to apply classification to documents and emails, regardless of where data is stored or whom it's shared with. This collaboration allows organizations with Digital Guardian deployed to extend their data loss prevention policies further to apply AIP controls, something that combines both DLP System and User classification.
With the solution Digital Guardian can automatically apply AIP protection to sensitive files, meaning if a user attempts to send the file by email Digital Guardian can recognize unsanctioned leakage and prompt the user.
With now cross platform integration between Digital Guardian and Microsoft our intention is to span both Microsoft information protection solutions and Active Directory Rights Management service.
By the end of 2018 Digital Guardian is planning to leverage Microsoft's Azure Information Protection dev platform to implement the SDK for file protection across all supported platforms, including Windows, macOS and Linux platforms. Digital Guardian is also planning on introducing automated DLP capabilities for Microsoft Azure Information Protection Labeling for Office and Acrobat applications.
